El Nido

During our time in Port Barton some friends told us that El Nido would be very different, that the place feels like a big tourist trap and the boattours are overcrowded and expensive. Despite all the warnings we were still excited to see El Nido and experience this hyped paradise firsthand. Would it still be possible to find a lonely white sand beach to relax? Or would it be overcrowded due to international recognition and busloads of tourists?

As soon as we arrived in the small town we checked in at a budget place and dropped our backpacks. El Nido is a bit more expensive than the usual tourist spots in the Philippines and many vendors try to overprice food and transport. Good thing my girlfriend is a filipina and can negotiate well. Our first impression was actually pretty good, El Nido is clearly more touristic than a place like Port Barton but we did not expect anything else.

We went straight to Las Cabanas beach, the best place to watch the beautiful sunset. Our trycicle driver was very friendly and gave us a cheaper (still overpriced) rate.
